Ever had the experience of waking up from a sound sleep with the solution to a problem that’s bee
n onyour mind? One of those wake up ah-ha’s came during my first Harley road trip.
The thought greeting me was instructional and specific: lean into the curve and accelerate through it. It improves your balance. When you come to one of life’s curves lean into it and speed up.
Throughout the day I mused over what this message could mean. Here’s what showed up:
My 8 day motorcycle trip had a deeper meaning for me than expected. Don’t you just love that? Everyone and everything in life can be a teacher if you let it.
Revved up and curious, I wondered what other lessons I could find. Here’s my TOP 10:
1. Look far enough ahead to know what’s coming
(You’re better equipped to successfully navigate the terrain)
2. You automatically steer toward what you’re looking at
(Remember to look at what you WANT, not what you don’t want)
3. Maneuvering is more often a lean than a turn
(Changing lanes can be as easy as a lean to the left or the right)
4. Stand up for the bumps!
(Taking them sitting down can be painful)
5. There are multiple roads to your destination; you can get on and off them as it suits you
(tollway, freeway, back roads, scenic route, lots to choose from)
6. Some roads are well paved: smooth, dry, straight with higher speed limits
(Take them when you’re in a hurry)
7. Heed the signs; they’re everywhere and there for a reason
(Deer crossing, don’t feed the bears, S curve, steep drop, rough grade, etc)
8. Be prepared for rain and it does eventually rain
(From Stu, Ted’s riding buddy. Stuism: There’s no bad weather only poor choice of gear)
9. Some rest stops are more pleasant than others
(Sometimes you just gotta stop!)
10. Relax and enjoy the ride
(It’s why you got on the bike in the first place)
Hopefully, one or more of these lessons is relevant to where you are on your life’s journey and can help you have an even greater ride.
Ride on!
PS. It’s that time again… Road Trip. Off we go – Chicago to Deadwood, Badlands to buffaloes, Devil’s Tower to Mount Rushmore. Can’t what to see what I’ll have for you when I get back.
